Recent advances in brain imaging technology provide visual proof for the truth of scripture. Unhealthy attachments to substances, sex outside of marriage and dysfunctional relationships result in damaged brains, broken hearts and other painful relational issues. “The Power of Joy” is a one day seminar to help you understand God’s design for healthy relationships, life giving sexuality and deep healing for painful memories and experiences.

Session One

Neuro-Theology of Sex and Addiction: Recent scientific study of the human brain affirms what scripture has taught for thousands of years: God designed sex to be a powerful bonding experience between husband and wife. However, Satan often distorts it to a point of great destruction. SPECT scans of sexually addicted brains graphically show this damage. Thankfully, Scripture not only teaches us God’s original intent for sex, it also reveals God’s desire to redeem and restore our hearts and minds closer to His original design. Understanding the results of substituting sex or other counterfeits for relational connections with God and others can motivate us to not settle for distortions and to seek healing for our damaged sexuality.

Session Two

Attachment: Attachment is the outgrowth of both the quantity and quality of our relational connections, especially those of our early childhood. Many experts are beginning to assert that addiction, co-dependency and many of our dysfunctions are driven primarily by attachment pain and insecure attachment styles. In this session, Darrell explains the three insecure attachment styles and how each inclines us toward unique and sinful forms of self-protection that leave us trying to cope in destructive and isolating ways. It also introduces specific things we can do to address our insecure attachments, repent of our self-protection and build secure attachments with God and others based on a foundation of joyful connection.

Session Three

The Problem of Unprocessed Pain: Whenever something happens that we do not have the capacity to fully process, our brain takes the memory and the feelings associated with it and in essence buries them. However, when something even remotely similar happens or we experience a similar feeling, the unprocessed pain comes flooding to the surface magnifying the intensity and pain of the current experience. This is why we often react with a level ten response to something that, when we look at it objectively, was probably a level three offense. This is especially important with childhood memories as we often look at them through our adult eyes and fail to see the necessary importance to resolving the old pain. After all, when we look back on something it may seem silly or inconsequential now, and our tendency is to ignore the impact it really has on our lives. Going back and fully processing these old memories helps us keep the past in the past and deal with issues in the present based on their own merits.

Session Four

The Immanuel Process: Jesus’ last words before he ascended into heaven were, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) However, we are often like the disciples on the road to Emmaus who were with Jesus and yet completely oblivious to His presence. The Immanuel prayer process is a form of facilitated prayer designed to open the eyes of our hearts to the reality of Jesus' presence in every circumstance of our lives. Discovering Jesus’ presence with us, and experiencing a taste of His joy and delight transforms even the most difficult memories and brings significant healing.

Endorsements

"I want you to know that I was so blessed by your seminar! It was very well done, and the content was amazing! My wife and I have been talking about the content all week. I look forward to getting the DVD’s and watching them several times, and sharing them with others. Thank you for faithfulness and ministry in this vital area." Clint Sprague, Senior Pastor for Life Church where Darrell Presented the Power of Joy in January www.getlife.info

"Darrell is not just on a different playing field, he is playing a different game when it comes to recovery from sexual addictions. Darrell has a clear picture of the problem, experience with methods and the best theoretical base I have ever seen on solutions that will make real lasting changes. When you are done having people hold your hand, preach at you, reading the usual Christian books on the subject of sexual addiction and attending the meetings that help you hold on one more day and you want something that is meaningfully different - you are ready to meet Darrell Brazell and his work." Dr. Jim Wilder www.lifemodel.org

"Darrell Brazell’s work strongly influences my approach to therapy for Christian men struggling with sexual purity issues. His integrative style – relating attachment theory and brain science to addiction – is a wonderful treatment approach for Christian men seeking relief from sexual addictions. He clearly conceptualizes and applies cutting-edge theories on addiction; all along revealing Biblical truths that accurately reflect and parallel what the most recent scientific discoveries reveal to us about the formation of addictive tendencies in individuals. Pastor Brazell has developed a program that is the winning trifecta of Christian sexual recovery ministry: scientifically valid, Biblically informed, with many redeemed lives to prove its effectiveness."
